Are you planning to go travelling sometime soon? Many of our customers use self storage while they are away travelling so we figured we would put together a list of our top tips to help you prepare for your travels and yes, one of them does include self storage travelling!
Research and sort out any visas you may need!
For a lot of countries, you will need a visa for entry. This is something you tend to have to arrange before arriving in the country. It would be the best idea to sort out any visas before your flight, this will help to keep you prepared and organised. The last thing you would want is to spend money on flights to then be denied entry into a country because you have no visa or worse denied visa. Another thing to consider, if you are planning to work in the country ensure that your visa is a working visa. To get more information on visas and what kind of visa you will need, you can find this information by visiting your local foreign office or the immigration website of the country you are visiting.
Remember your passport!!
One of the most important aspects to remember before travelling is to ensure your passport is in date and valid for travel. Before travelling ensure that our passport has at least six months validity. Something else to note is to ensure that your passport is not damaged, and your photo is not too outdated and there should be plenty of blank pages. Take into consideration that it can take between 3-6 weeks to receive a new passport.
Get insured!
Make sure you get insured. This is incredibly important! Get insured for everything. This includes, health, belongings, travel. If you are travelling with a company or an organised programme, they sometimes sort insurance out for you but always double check. Also, before purchasing any insurance, do your research and get quotes from different companies!
Save, save, save!
This is one of the most important parts when travel planning. Especially if you are planning to spend a lot of time abroad i.e., more than three months. You will want to research the cost of living in the particular country that you are visiting. You want to get an idea of your expenses before you go, to see if you can afford the lifestyle. Your expenses may include, food, drink, accommodation, flights, transport, activities, entertainment. As you can see there are a lot of aspects to factor in. Be realistic abut your expenses and budget for each day/ week that you are there, the reason for this is because spontaneous opportunities may arise while you are there.
Consider putting your belongings into storage while you are away.
If you are going to be travelling for a while, it would be best to consider renting a storage space. The reasons for this is that storage units are safe and secure. Our storage units here at Self Storage Hyde we have over 300 CCTV cameras, high security fencing, secure, modern storage units, modern red care alarm system, 24/7 alarm system and staff on site 7 days a week. You have nothing to worry about if you decide to store with us. We go above and beyond to keep our site secure so our customers can have peace of mind whilst storing with us.
Learn about the country you are travelling to!
This is incredibly important! The chances are you will experience some culture shock, no matter how open minded you are. It is good to be somewhat prepared and research the culture, this is out of respect too and so you can thoroughly enjoy yourself. Research the places you want to visit, if there are any events being held whilst you are there so you can get tickets. You do not need to be fluent in their language however it is always good to know a few common phrases so you can communicate well with the locals. So, remember, do your research!
Check your mobile and your phone plan.
Not every mobile phone works in every country. You want to ensure that you have a phone that works in the country that you are visiting for a while. The best thing to do is probably get a phone that operates on a Global System for Mobile Communications network (GSM). Again, this comes into doing your research before travelling.
Most importantly have fun while you are travelling. Make unforgettable memories. Travelling for some people is a once in a lifetime opportunity so you will want to make the most of it and be incredibly prepared for going.
