Are you thinking about renting a storage unit for a long period of time? There are some things that you may not have considered, we have you covered! Carry on reading for our top tips on what you should do if you need to rent a unit long term.
Keep your storage unit organised!
Our best advice is to label everything you own. Having a system like this will help you to keep track of where all of your belongings are and it will make things ten times easier when you need to find an item. If you are not going back to your storage unit for a while, you might want to consider placing items you need access to more often nearer the front of your unit, this will save you from digging through every single thing you own and making a mess of your unit.
Only store the things you really need!
If you are having a clear out, you will need to make sure that you are not renting a unit that is a lot bigger than what you actually need. The last thing you want to do is to move the junk and items you don’t actually need from your house into a storage unit. This can just cause unnecessary stress in the long run. Just store the things you genuinely need.
Consider purchasing insurance!
Here at Tameside we offer your first two weeks of insurance free. Our storage insurance and insurance promotion is the perfect way to help you store with confidence. Our facility is safe and secure and it has over 300 CCTV cameras to keep your things safe but if you need that extra peace of mind we can provide insurance for you. If you choose to store with us here at Tameside our insurance is optional and there is no obligation to purchase. However if you don’t purchase insurance your belongings will not be covered by us. If you are nervous about leaving your things in a storage unit then we recommend purchasing insurance for your own peace of mind.
Check reviews and ratings!
Be sure when renting a storage unit from any company to check the ratings and reviews of the company. Even if the company is a well-known chain, still be sure to read the reviews. Checking the online reviews from sites such as Facebook , Yelp or even Google all of these sites will let you know whether or not the company lacks sufficient customer service and other important features, such as the safety and security of renting a unit with themselves. It also doesn’t hurt to ask friends and family for their recommendations on what company is best to go with. Sometimes friends and family recommendations can be more helpful and reliable than online reviews, they are a more reliable source.
Pack properly
If you pack your items properly then you will keep them in great shape no matter how long they will be in the unit. To pack your things properly, ensure that you invest in good, strong, sturdy packing boxes. Even though it is tempting to wrap your things in plastic, avoid it! Plastic can trap water, and will leave no room for air. This can cause the water to damage items that you don’t want ruined.
